Changing of the guard, Ridley Orion, Merida Trail, Raleigh Aura, ........ After two and a half years the blogmeister at Mikes Bikes has changed. At 5.30pm on Thursday Dougie left Mikes Bikes for a new life in Sanquer (Dumfries & Galloway), the shop will never be the same!! Now that the summer is here, at least it was on Monday, new 2010 models are arriving almost daily, Highlights include: 2010 Ridley Orion, £1800, a full carbon race machine, with a full (yes full) 6700 series ultegra gruppo, 20% stiffer than the 2009 model, this bike is build for hard use, and rapid acceleration. Around 50% of all bikes sold at Mikes Bikes are to women, we therfore take great care to source female specific bikes and unisex bikes which suit women. One such bike is the Merida Trail MTB(£600 to £1000), which is built with a shorter frame than a regular bike, for neater handling. This geometry creates an ideal female bike for all heights, and has the bonus of not being flowery or pink! The Raleigh Aura female road bike, continues to be a top seller @ £599.99, due to its price, weight and looks. We have managed to obtain a limited number of these, as they are selling out across the uk. Speaking of summer, Mike decided to cycle to Nairn from Kingussie on Sunday for a "wee blast", fully expecting to arrive in under 2 hours, he was unsurprised to take over 2.5hrs!! With frozen toes, cold hands and extreme exhaustion, he battled a headwind for the whole route, with rain and hailstones to contend with, the summer finally arrived one mile from Nairn!! The moral of this story is twofold: An expensive 15lb road bike (Raleigh Avanti Team) does not make the wind/rain/hailstones easier! The Scottish summer has been delayed!
