    The worst advert ever?

Altura Night Vision, Million Pound Bike Ride, World Track Championships, Chris Hoy, Victoria Pendleton, Ed Clancy, Wolftrax, Learnie Red Rocks, Wildcat Trails, DBR Race, Raleigh Carbon Race, Flying Scot, Raleigh 100, try before you buy, Ridley test centre

It seems like ever since Mike found fame and fortune in "The Adventure Show" last year, everybody has been trying to get their bike on television. First up, we have the guys from the Million Pound Bike Ride, resplendent in their Altura Night Vision clothing. If you are the sort of person that prefers to blend into the background you should pop into the Army and Navy Stores for some camouflage gear, if you would rather be seen by approaching traffic, come and see us at Mikes Bikes to try the 2010 range of Altura clothing modelled by celebrities on the BBC. Also, on the BBC we had Mark Beaumont Cycling the Americas. Interesting show but after the first episode its impossible not to point out that Mike's Bikes sponsored rider Penny Weir had been there first, on her coast to coast "Big Bike Ride" in 2008. And, of course, there has been extensive coverage of the World Track Championships from Denmark where Chris Hoy, Victoria Pendleton and Ed Clancy struck gold - however no amount of broadcasting can blot out the memory of Chris Hoy's finest televisual moment in what is surely a contender for one of the worst TV adverts ever!

With the recent good weather, we've seen a return to the trails in the North of Scotland with Mike taking his Diamondback DBR Race down to Laggan for a blast around Wolftrax. With candid good humour, he admitted to having flown over the handlebars at least once (not rider error, natch!) so, in this respect, even with all his experience, his enjoyment was not dissimilar to Lana's debutante appearance at Learnie Red Rocks. Looking at the weather today though a return to the conditions we enjoyed at the Wildcat Trails in Golspie earlier in the year doesn't seem that unlikely!

    wildcat trails in snow

Yesterday was free of snow, so I took my road bike out to Tain to get the daily paper. When I came out of the newsagent there was an old gentleman admiring my Raleigh Carbon Race. It was nice to chat to him awhile about his experiences as a cyclist in his younger days. He told me that he was still the proud owner of a Flying Scot - an icon of yesteryear that I used to lust after. By coincidence, Mike's Bikes have just arranged to supply the Doo Below with an original Flying Scot that they intend to use for display purposes alongside their other sporting memorabilia. If you are interested in trying out the road biking experience but are wary of investing in something that might not suit you, why not give some consideration to our try before you buy scheme. This year, Mike's Bikes will be operating a hire fleet of Raleigh 100 road bikes in addition to our regular MTB hire bikes. Take one out and discover the exhilaration of speed. If you are already an enthusiast and looking for something a little more exotic, ask Jenny about our demo bikes. We are now an official test centre for Ridley - perhaps something from this top Belgian manufacturer is just what you need to unlock that little bit of extra speed and acceleration!
